Our Health and Wellness Clinics are for individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities. These clinics provide the opportunity to become physically active and gain insight to achieving a well-balanced lifestyle.

Online Programming


E-Birding Virtual Series 

This virtual event will take place via Zoom with three 2-hour classes over a 3 month time frame.  Participants will have the opportunity to join the Shepherd Center and Georgia Audubon for an online education series on birdwatching. Series topics will be determined closer to the program dates. This program starts in January and will run once a month through March.    

  • Date: January 7, February 11, and March 11 (3 sessions)  
  • Time: 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. 
  • Location: Online Virtual Platform 
  • Cost: $20 (includes t-shirt and equipment) 

Virtual Art Clinic   

This event will give the opportunity for participants to join the Shepherd Center and certified art therapists on a virtual platform via Zoom to patriciate in an art-based activity. This course offers educational and hands-on demonstrations. Program activity will be determined closer to the program date.

  • Time: 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.

  • Cost: $20 (includes t-shirt, instruction, and equipment)   


In-Person Programming


Snow Ski Trip with the National Ability Center 

This event will take place at the National Ability Center in Park City, Utah. Participants will have the opportunity to join Shepherd Center and the NAC for snow skiing in addition to various other activities.  Please note that participants will be responsible for securing their own airfare for this event.     

  • Date: January 27-31  
  • Location: National Ability Center in Park City, Utah 
  • Cost: $600 (includes t-shirt, meals, lodging, transportation, and equipment, and instruction.  Additional fees for family members/attendants that plan to ski. Participants are responsible for securing their own airfare). 

Winter Horticulture Clinic    

This event will take place at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA. Participants will have the opportunity to join Shepherd Center and Trellis Horticulture Therapy Alliance for a horticulture clinic that will focus on a basic horticulture/nature craft session. Program activity will be determined closer to clinic date.

  • Date: February 13  
  • Time: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.   
  • Location: Shepherd Center Auditorium, 2020 Peachtree Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30309 
  • Cost: $20 (includes t-shirt, instruction, and equipment)    

February Boxing Clinic      

This event will take place at Pepper Boxing in Atlanta, GA. Participants will have the opportunity to join Shepherd Center and Pepper Boxing instructors for a 50-minute fitness class. This course offers educational and hands-on demonstrations. Equipment will be provided.       

  • Date: February 19         
  • Time: 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.     
  • Location: Pepper Boxing, 3090 Early Street, NW Atlanta, GA 30305     
  • Cost: $20 (includes t-shirt, instruction, and equipment)

Dillsboro Art Clinic  

This event will take place at the Jackson County Green Energy Park in Dillsboro, NC. Participants will have the opportunity to join Shepherd Center and local artisans to create various art mediums.  Potential art projects include: glass blowing, blacksmithing, hand clay building, and ceramics. This course offers educational and hands-on demonstrations. Equipment will be provided. Lunch will also be provided. Please note that participants will be responsible for securing their own transportation for this event.  

  • Date: March 9 
  • Time:  10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. 
  • Location: Jackson County Green Energy Park in Dillsboro, NC, 100 Green Energy Park Road, Dillsboro, NC 28725 
  • Cost: $50 for both participant and family member/attendant (includes t-shirt, instruction, and equipment)  

Asheville Mountain Biking Clinic

This event will take place in Asheville, NC and will be sponsored by the Jack Trottier Foundation. Participants will have the opportunity to join the Shepherd Center and Catalyst Sports for a clinic focusing on adaptive mountain biking. This course offers educational and hands-on demonstrations. Please note that participants will be responsible for securing their own transportation for this event

  • Cost: Free! - thanks to the generosity of the Jack Trottier Foundation (includes t-shirt, instruction, and equipment)    

Spring Yoga Clinic    

This event will take place at Shepherd Center. Participants will have the opportunity to join the Shepherd Center and Certified Yoga Instructors to learn more about adaptive yoga. This course offers educational and hands-on demonstrations.

  • Time: 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.   
  • Location: Shepherd Center Auditorium, 2020 Peachtree Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30309 
  • Cost: $20 (includes t-shirt, instruction, and equipment)    

Charlotte Clinic  

This event will take place in Charlotte, NC at the Back to Independence Rehab gym. Participants will have the opportunity to join the Shepherd Center, and Back to Independence Rehab for a day clinic. This course offers educational and hands on demonstrations focusing on fitness/exercise, yoga, and nutrition education. Please note that participants will be responsible for securing their own transportation for this event.

Burnalong Online Fitness Programming 


Shepherd Center Collaborates with Burnalong to Provide Online Wellness Programming for Neurological Conditions

Burnalong is an online wellness platform and interactive community, that offers 50,000+ live and on-demand classes. Shepherd Center has partnered with Burnalong to provide custom content such as adaptive workouts, yoga, art, mindfulness and meditation, education, classes in Spanish, and so much more for people with neurological conditions. In addition to Shepherd Center classes, Burnalong offers 70+ categories for all ages, including traditional fitness, nutrition, finance, chronic conditions support, and even dog workouts.”

Registration


Registration is required for all events and opens at least six weeks prior to the start of the class or course. Most courses require a small fee; however, financial assistance is available. Please contact Katie Harmon at katie.harmon@shepherd.org for more information regarding requirements for financial assistance.
